How co-inkydinkle is this~~~another horse story!
(2 days in a row)
The Halifax Regional Police ride their horses in <<click
PPP (Point Pleasant Park)
every now and again.
It is always exciting when you get a chance to see
the rider and his/her horse,
because I get a feeling of safety and security
when they appear as we take our walks in the park.
I stare at them every time and get a slight whiff of the horse as he passes me.
These horses are really very cool,
even my presence didn't phase him in the least.
They are so well-trained
to deal with vehicles of all shapes and sizes,
humans of all ages,
sounds and noises coming from all sides,
many dogs barking
and
ships tooting their horns while entering and leaving the harbour.
So you can see why we become very excited and almost protective
of these magnificent animals and their handlers.
That is one beautiful horse!
ReplyDeleteI wish we could have gotten closer....there will be a next time I'm sure!!
DeleteMany years ago, in Auckland, my Mum and Dad took me to see " Rose Marie on Ice' featuring Wim de Jong and Sonja Henie. The highlight of the show, and I can see it in my mind as if today, was when the skaters were dressed in the RCMP costumes, deep red, with shoulder epaulettes, linked arms, with half facing one way, half the other, and they skated in a circle. They spun round and round, applause deafening at the end.Sophie, no horses on the ice, just the skaters!! This would have been sometime in the 1950's. And today, the horse still ridden, long may it be a proud animal, and I hope you get to see many more. Lovely photos. Greetings from Jean.p.s. your words today bring back to me this wonderful memory, thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean....!
DeleteWhat a lovely memory.....I can just see the crimson red uniforms weaving in and out, spiraling and in formation. We in Canada are so used to this beautiful presentation offered by the RCMP. My uncle was one of those riders many decades ago. He was so proud to be part of this world.
I know of Sonja Henie and will search out Wim de Jong. Skaters of great reknown always are so captivating. We love the skating world here too and went to the World's in Halifax in the early 1990's. Watching Kurt Browning, Viktor Petrenko and Christopher Bowman along with Gordeeva/Grinkov and Midori Ito....the list goes on. This is my memory of skating.
Seeing this Police Horse in the park really illicts a lot of memories for all of us and I believe the timing was perfect with the bright colours and ambling manner.
Ron
What a handsome steed! And I LOVE that last shot of you with your highlighted hair!
ReplyDeleteI think immediately of you and 'Colorado' Terry when I see these horses, Lori. I'm just captivated and stare looking at every bit of this beautiful animal.
DeleteSophie was in very receptive mood that day and actually looked into the camera!!
Ron

ReplyDeleteNow wouldn't that be the best job, especially if you loved horses. Working your way down the streets and into the park~~~~ambling along~~~~seeing the ocean~~~trees~~~people...NOW that's nirvana!!
Delete"Mounted Police" How very canadian!! And very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes we Canadians LOVE our "Mounted Police" and MAPLEY SYRUP~~~~~~~Mmmmmmmmm!!
DeletePS~~~~~~The above Police are the Halifax Regional Police which are a separate entity from the R.C.M.P. organization.
DeleteAnd sometimes they leave behind Horse Apples!!
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
I knew I was sniffin' sometimes juicy/tasty/muffiny and odorific!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteYou would be the expert, Terry......I look and I see HORSE........maybe it's time to sit down and realize all the different types~~~~~~~blogging is eductional!!
DeleteWhat a treat! It must take a lot of training to get to that level.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking~~~~~long hours of love and companionship goes into producing such a fine specimen....I believe!!!!

DeleteANYWAY >>>>>>>> thanks for the links to those pictures.....the parade and the horses are magnificent.....everybody really the horses.
The child with the horse is so cute....start them young and they'll grow up to be big horsey riders.......LOL!!!
Those horsies sure are pretty. They listen better than us
ReplyDeleteSnorts,
Benny & Lily
You are so right Benny and Lily.....this horsey listens better than me too!
DeleteWhat a magnificent horse.
ReplyDeleteThat's what attracted me in the first place along with the vibrant yellow.....LOVE YELLOW!!
DeleteSend some of that snow here to KY :)
ReplyDeleteI'll get on that right away, OE in KY!!!!!
DeleteThanks for dropping by!
Hey Sophie and Ron!
ReplyDeleteMore beautiful horses! Draft horses are my favorites! That's why I'm fascinated with Boomer. I love mounted police! I wish we had them here. Maybe we do; I just haven't seen any.
I hope all those aches and cricks are easing. Sometimes a nice long soak in a warm tub feels good - well, maybe for human aches. I can't speak for dogs! Somehow I don't think you like to soak in a warm tub, Sophie, especially if it has bubble bath in it.
Have a good evening!
Yes, Boomer is a beauty that's for sure.
DeleteRon is coming along fine with the aches and pains....I'm taking care of him!!
Sophie Doodle
That's a beautiful doodle also - the limelight has shifted Sophie (tell Ron to point the camera down some... you are jus there LOL!). Those 'work' horses are so regal, we got to see some in Ottawa this summer, very impressive!
ReplyDeleteIvan (who is missing Aston... sniff!)
Next time you go galavanting off to Paris...let me know and I'll come and keep Aston company....we'd have a rather cool DoodlePug time....guaranteed!!
DeleteSophie here.....HI to Mark and everyone else!!
Cake....remember let them eat lots of CAKE!!!!
So many cities still have their horse patrols. I love it. I was disappointed to learn that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in you neighborhood the other day were mounted on cars and not horses. This is reassuring.
ReplyDeleteTo address any confusion, Mitch.....the Halifax Regional Police above in my pictures are a separate entity from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (as mentioned on FB the other day). The location of our home falls under the jurisdiction of the R.C.M.P. so that is why the cars were congregating outside the house...trying to catch their fugitive(or whatever it was that drew them here).
ReplyDeleteThe H R Police have the horses that we see in the city patrolling the parks and streets. The R.C.M.P. horses are, I believe, used specifically for the Musical Ride that is so popular to watch in our country. There does that make any sense.
How exciting it looks....
ReplyDeletePsssst Sophie...Tyra is in heat and we will visit a handsome dachshund male next weekend....
I cant go to Finland because all ships are sold out....but I have found a great guy for her, with great hunting lines...so it will be puppies
I am so EXCITED for all of you ~~~~~~ Tyra will make a great Momma and new little puppies in a few months....fingers crossed for good luck!!!
DeleteThat's a nice way to protect the land and the park. I'm jealous you got to see horses......
ReplyDeleteViolet
Hi Violet ~~~~ I am so happy when the horses are visiting the park.....I always get excited but calm down as soon as I realize they aren't going to cause any problems!
DeleteWhat a beautiful horse! Looks like a cross with some kind of draft horse.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else suggested that too....I'm not a horse person....so you both probably know best....thanks!
